  • Pitou
Pitou 1715-1815, p. 240-1 : eldest of J.B. Gavaudan's sisters. Debut in La Double Epreuve ou Colinette à la cour on 1 January 1782 ; La Caravane du Caire with her sister Adelaïde in 1784. "The Revolution had no adverse effect upon the actress's fortunes in the theatre…. [she] dropped from sight after the passing to the Terror. Her career had lasted for a decade. It was her marriage to the singer Lainé that prompted her retirement."
Note : Pitou has her play Laurette in Le Triomphe de la répubique on 27 January 1793, but he also says that her sister had the part. Since Anne-Marie took several roles in "propagandist compositions", it is more probable she was the Laurette, and not Adelaïde, who fled from the revolution.
