"Vachon [Vasson, Waschon], Pierre (b Avignon, 3 June 1738; d Berlin, 7 Oct 1803). French violinist and composer. The son of Ignace Joseph Vachon and Marie-Anne Villelme. […] His public début was at the Concert Spirituel on 24 December 1756, at which he played one of his own concertos, and he had further success in twelve concerts in 1758. He was first violinist in the Prince of Conti's orchestra from at least November 1761, and performed in concerts at the royal court in Fontainebleau. With Jean-Claude Trial, another musician employed by the court, he composed two operas: Renaud d'Ast and Esope à Cythère during these years. […]
Vachon made journeys to London in 1772, 1774 and again in 1777, returning to Paris for short periods in between. According to the Almanach musical, he seems to have remained in England until 1778.
About 1784 he went to Germany as a musician in the Palatine court, and two years later he had become leader of the royal orchestra in Berlin, alongside Benda. […] Vachon left his post there in 1798, with a pension which he continued to receive until his death."
