"Louis-François-Barthélemy Piffet [le fils or le neveu] (b Amiens, 22 April 1734; d Port-au-Prince, Haiti, 19 Aug 1779). Violinist and composer, son of Pierre-Louis Piffet. In 1751 he (or Joseph-Antoine, whom Louis replaced in the Opéra orchestra in that year) joined the Concert Spirituel orchestra. The membership of a Piffet in both organizations, though not continuous, can be traced to 1761. On 23 April 1753 he played a solo at the Concert Spirituel, and on 5 September 1754 he became a member of the 24 Violons. A Piffet le fils is also listed among the retired members of the Comédie-Française after 1765 (a Piffet was a member of this organization from 1749 to 1758). Louis was apparently the composer of three cantatas for solo voice and instruments – Les travaux d’Hercule, La nouvelle nimphe and Le départ de Roquette; the first two were written and published by 1747, when he was only 13."
